Medtronic published a bulletin on November 30, 2023 on CVE-2023-37679 and CVE-2023-43208 in Mirth Connect, a third-party open source healthcare data integration platform. Both allow attackers to remotely execute arbitrary commands on the hosting server.

Medtronic lists NextGen Mirth Connect 4.4.0 and prior used with Mainspring Data Express CareLink EHR Integration, and the Mirth Connect component of the Vital Sync virtual patient monitoring platform and informatics manager. The company said it was not aware of related cyberattacks, unauthorized access to patient data or patient harm.

An integration engine holds connections into the EHR and every feeding system, so remote command execution there reaches far past one server. Hospitals that run their own Mirth Connect instances have the same exposure on the hospital side.
