Baxter published a bulletin on January 31, 2024, listing products that may be vulnerable to the critical Mirth Connect vulnerability CVE-2023-43208: Hillrom Smart Device Connectivity, Welch Allyn RetinaVue Network, Welch Allyn ELI Link Software in its HL7 configuration only, Voalte Nurse Call and Sharesource Connect.

Mirth Connect is the open-source integration engine that moves HL7 messages between systems, and CVE-2023-43208 is an unauthenticated remote code execution flaw in it. Baxter gives a patch or mitigation status for each listed product and says products not listed are believed not impacted.

Integration engines inherit every flaw in the engine they embed. Any device line that ships Mirth needs it in the SBOM before the next advisory lands.

Check Baxter's bulletin for the patch or mitigation status of each listed product and apply it. CVE-2023-43208 is critical and needs no credentials, so any Mirth Connect interface reachable from general hospital networks should be restricted until patched.

Apply Baxter's status. Install the patch or mitigation the bulletin names for each product.
