Philips Healthcare said on February 21, 2013 that researchers at a recent cybersecurity conference in Florida had presented on a vulnerability in a system component of the Philips Xper Information Management System (Xper-IM).
The company said its engineering and product security staff had investigated the issue, and that it expected to ship a software update shortly once software validation was complete.
Public conference disclosure flips the usual order: hospitals hear about the flaw before the fix exists. Validation time on a regulated product is the gap operators have to cover with network controls.
