On July 19, 2024, Philips posted a notice on the worldwide outage on Windows systems, triggered unintentionally by an update CrowdStrike pushed out. The listed product is PIC iX, the central station for Philips patient monitoring.
No attacker was involved. A third-party security agent with kernel access shipped a bad update, and Windows hosts that ran it failed to boot. On a central monitoring station, the clinical cost of that is the same as an attack: no central view of patient alarms until the host is recovered.
