Philips published an advisory on March 28, 2022, covering five vulnerabilities in Apache Log4j 1.x: CVE-2021-4104, CVE-2019-17571, CVE-2022-23302, CVE-2022-23305 and CVE-2022-23307. Listed products are IntelliVue XDS and VuePACS 12.1.5 and 12.2.x.

Log4j 1.x is end of life and no longer supported, and Apache's recommendation is to upgrade to Log4j 2.x. No 1.x patch is coming from Apache, so the fix sits with the product team that embedded it.

An end-of-life logging library inside a PACS is an SBOM finding that should have surfaced years before the CVEs did.

Apache will not patch Log4j 1.x; its recommendation is to move to Log4j 2.x. Get the Philips remediation for IntelliVue XDS and VuePACS 12.1.5 and 12.2.x, and confirm whether the vulnerable Log4j 1.x features are enabled in your configuration.

Ask Philips for the upgrade path. Request the remediation for IntelliVue XDS and VuePACS covering the Log4j 1.x CVEs.
Check feature use. Confirm with Philips whether JMSAppender, SocketServer or JDBCAppender is configured.
