Leica Biosystems published a network security notice on October 15, 2020 for internet-connected Aperio VERSA v1.0.4 (serials 500152 to 500257) and LBS CytoVision v7.6 and v7.7 (serials 202496 to 203358) with LAS X installed. The vulnerability is in WIBU Systems CodeMeter, embedded in the Leica Microsystems LAS X image acquisition software, and the notice refers to CISA advisory ICSA-20-203-01.

The mitigation is to block TCP port 22350 or uninstall CodeMeter. A license manager rarely appears on anyone's asset list, which is why the port check comes first.

Aperio VERSA v1.0.4 and CytoVision v7.6 and v7.7 with LAS X embed a vulnerable CodeMeter. Leica's mitigation is to block TCP port 22350 or uninstall CodeMeter. Do one of the two on every listed serial.

Block TCP 22350. Deny inbound TCP port 22350 to affected Aperio VERSA and CytoVision systems.
Uninstall CodeMeter if unneeded. Remove CodeMeter where LAS X licensing does not require it.
Take systems off the internet. Remove direct internet connectivity from these imaging systems.
