Hologic issued revision 002 of bulletin CTB-00318 on July 25, 2017 for its Skeletal Health line. WannaCry and EternalBlue use the Windows SMB vulnerability fixed by MS17-010 to propagate, and Hologic strongly recommends applying the Microsoft security patch to Skeletal Health DXA (QDR) systems and Fluoroscan products.

The bulletin includes installation instructions. Bone densitometers tend to sit in outpatient clinics with thin IT coverage, which is exactly where a propagating worm finds an unpatched host.

Apply the Microsoft MS17-010 patch to Skeletal Health DXA (QDR) systems and Fluoroscan following the instructions in bulletin CTB-00318. Block SMB to these systems from outside their segment.

Install MS17-010. Follow the CTB-00318 instructions to apply the Microsoft patch on each DXA (QDR) and Fluoroscan system.
Reach outpatient sites. Confirm patch state on DXA systems in satellite clinics, not only the main campus.
Restrict SMB. Block TCP 445 to these systems from outside their segment.
