Cepheid GeneXpert Xpress 6.4a needs Adobe Reader update from APSB25-119

On March 11, 2026 Cepheid flagged the Adobe Reader component of GeneXpert Xpress 6.4a. The installed Reader is older than 20.005.30838 or 25.001.20997. Four CVEs from Adobe bulletin APSB25-119 apply: CVE-2025-64785, CVE-2025-64786, CVE-2025-64787 and CVE-2025-64899.

Cepheid says they could lead to arbitrary code execution, privilege escalation, memory corruption or crashes. The fix is the Reader update Cepheid links. A PDF reader is the usual way a malicious file gets code running on a workstation, and Xpress systems often sit in near patient settings with shared logins.

Upgrade Adobe Reader on GeneXpert Xpress 6.4a to 20.005.30838, 25.001.20997 or later, per Cepheid's March 11, 2026 notice on APSB25-119. Confirm the version on every Xpress workstation after installation.

Install the Reader update. Apply the Adobe Reader update linked in Cepheid's notice to each Xpress 6.4a system.
Confirm the version. Check that Reader reports 20.005.30838, 25.001.20997 or later.
Restrict file intake. Keep untrusted PDFs and USB media off Xpress workstations used near patients.
Track the component. Add Adobe Reader to the system's tracked component list so future Adobe bulletins are checked against it.
