Cepheid posted a Critical Vulnerability Notification on September 30, 2025 for GeneXpert systems connected to a touchscreen running Cepheid OS 2.1. The Windows 10 underneath carries a critical kernel vulnerability that could allow privilege escalation and remote code execution. No CVE is named.

The fix is three Microsoft updates, and the order matters: KB5053606 as the prerequisite, KB5055518 for the kernel flaws, then KB5058379 as the final cumulative update. Sites check ntoskrnl.exe first. Version 10.0.19041.5369 means the system needs the update, and 10.0.19041.5848 confirms it took.

A notice with no CVE leaves no way to check exposure from a scanner, so the kernel version string is the only reliable test here.
