CISA published advisory ICSMA-17-227-01 on August 15, 2017, for the Luna CPAP machine sold by BMC Medical and 3B Medical. The flaw, CVE-2017-12701, is improper input validation (CWE-20) with a CVSS v3 base score of 4.6.

An authenticated attacker can crash the CPAP's Wi-Fi module and cause a denial of service. The vector requires adjacent network access and low privileges. The impact lands on the radio module, with low integrity and availability ratings, and CISA describes no effect on the airflow therapy itself.

The fix arrived with newer production: devices released after July 1, 2017 address the vulnerability. For devices released before that date, BMC Medical and 3B Medical offer no mitigations.

For a home device, a Wi-Fi crash mostly means lost data reporting. The harder problem is the installed base: units sold before July 2017 keep the flaw for as long as patients keep them.
