bioMérieux updated its Ripple20 advisory on October 14, 2020. The company found that HP SL-M4020ND printers delivered with some of its commercial systems in the past are affected by the Ripple20 vulnerabilities in the Treck TCP/IP stack when used through network connectivity instead of USB.
Ripple20 is the set of flaws the JSOF research group disclosed in Treck's network library, some confirmed as critical by CERTs because they may allow remote code execution or expose sensitive information. bioMérieux told customers to check whether they use networked HP SL-M4020ND printers with their bioMérieux systems and to update the printer firmware following HP's advisory.
The fix lives in a peripheral, outside the analyzer's own patch cycle. Printers that ship in the box belong in the same asset inventory as the instrument they serve.
