BD published a third-party bulletin on January 31, 2020 for CVE-2020-0601, a spoofing flaw in Windows CryptoAPI ECC certificate validation that Microsoft disclosed. BD lists products that use affected Windows versions, reports no exploitation, and is testing Microsoft's patch.

Certificate validation is what lets a device trust a signed update, a TLS server or a signed executable. A flaw that lets a forged ECC certificate pass breaks all three at once.

Devices that verify code signatures through the OS inherit the OS's mistakes. Patch the validation layer first.
